Canada election results: Joliette

Bloc Québécois candidate Gabriel Ste-Marie is the projected winner in the riding of Joliette.

The riding of Joliette includes the city of Joliette and a lot of rural lands, primarily in Matawinie, separated by many small towns. Male and female residents in this area go by Joliettains and Joliettaines.

Three-and-a-half per cent of this riding’s population identify as Aboriginal, with over 2,000 people speaking Atikamekw as their mother tongue.

Aside from an NDP win in 2011, the riding has been a Bloc Québécois stronghold.

Voters in Joliette re-elected Bloc Québécois MP Gabriel Ste-Marie in the 2019 federal election with 58.2 per cent of the vote. Liberal candidate Michel Bourgeois came in second with 22.5 per cent.

Ste-Marie is an economist and teacher. He collected 33.3 per cent of the vote when he was first elected in 2015.
