SASKATOON – Kiwanis Clubs announced a $100,000 contribution to Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan and its “For Every Family” campaign on Friday.

Ronald McDonald House’s $10 million campaign goal was already surpassed in May but this contribution will still help provide Saskatchewan families with sick children.

The donation will be used for construction of the Coffee and Cookies gathering space and will help to complete the renovation and expansion to the House.

“What’s left over will be put into an endowment fund to put toward operating and also to do some upgrades in the future for equipment and things like that,” Tammy Forrester, Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan executive director.

Forrester says the House has been operating at maximum capacity. In 2010, nearly 30 percent of the 914 families who came to the House had to find other accommodation due to a lack of space.

The renovation and expansion is expected to add 21 additional rooms, new laundry facilities, baby care rooms, play areas and expanded kitchen and dining rooms.

Construction is underway and is expected to open to its first visitors in summer 2014.
