Cougar spotted in area of Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver

West Vancouver Police issued a warning for the public Wednesday morning a cougar was spotted in the area.

The big cat was seen by a West Vancouver Fire Rescue crew at about 6 a.m. in the area of Lighthouse Park and the 4800-block of Marine Drive.

The cougar was last seen scaling a retaining wall and heading in the area of Lighthouse Park.

The West Vancouver Police Department is warning members of the public to be extra vigilant with regards to their surroundings and the possible presence of wildlife in and around the park.

In a situation of imminent danger the public can use 9-1-1 to request assistance.

They issued a tweet warning people to be aware.

At this time Lighthouse Park will remain open to the public.

The public is asked to report sightings of the cougar to the Ministry of Environment – Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
