Hamilton police say a 44-year-old man has been charged after allegedly bringing an explosive device to the parking lot of Lime Ridge Mall “with the intention to explode” it.
According to a statement issued by the service Monday evening, officers were called to the central mountain mall just before 5 a.m.
Police said the man was in a parked car and it was reported he was in crisis. A perimeter was set up in the area around the car and the statement said officers “began communications.”
However, just before 8 a.m., it was allegedly the man in the vehicle tried to take off from the scene, proceeding to hit police cars and barricades.
As the vehicle left the mall property, police said officers stopped it as it went onto Upper Wentworth Street. The statement said he was taken into custody without injuries.
