Peterborough County OPP seize drugs during city, Highway 7 traffic stops

Peterborough County OPP seized drugs during two separate traffic stops on Friday.

In the first incident, which occurred on Spillsbury Drive in Peterborough around 2:30 p.m., police discovered illicit drugs and open alcohol.

Edward Carter, 29, of Ottawa, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance — opioid
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Driving while under suspension
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Novice driver — blood-alcohol concentration above zero.
  • Three counts of failure to comply with a release order other than to attend court

He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Peterborough on Saturday.

Then around 10:50 p.m., officers responded to a traffic complaint on Hwy. 7 in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township east of Peterborough. Officers located the suspect vehicle and determined the driver was wanted on an arrest warrant.

Officers also located 26 grams of cocaine during a search of the vehicle.

Andrew McArthur, 40, of Peterborough, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I substance — cocaine, driving while under suspension and failure to comply with a probation order.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court in Peterborough on March 3, OPP said.
