Ottawa police seize loaded rifle in weekend traffic stop

Ottawa police said they seized a loaded rifle and a score of drugs during a downtown traffic stop over the weekend.

Front-line officers stopped a vehicle in the area of King Edward and Mann avenues early Saturday, police said in a statement.

Officers said they found a loaded 9mm Carbine rifle and more than two kilos of cannabis in the car.

Alanna Stern, a 40-year-old woman from Toronto, and Paul Woodside, a 27-year-old man from Ottawa, appeared in court Saturday facing several charges for firearm, drug and Highway Traffic Act offences.

This marks the fifth crime gun seized in Ottawa so far this year, police said.
