Two people are dead and two others are injured after an early-morning crash on Highway 1 through Strathmore, east of Calgary, on Sunday.
According to Strathmore RCMP, emergency crews were called around 4:13 a.m. for reports of a collision on Highway 1 east of Spruce Park Drive.
Investigators said that a Porsche SUV collided with the rear end of a Ford Expedition.
The 59-year-old woman driving the Expedition was taken to hospital where she died, RCMP said. A 33-year-old man in the Expedition was declared dead at the scene. Another passenger, a man, was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries, police said. The trio were family members from the Wheatland County area, Mounties said.
The man driving the Porsche SUV was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, RCMP said.
Police said alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
An RCMP collision analyst was on scene, and traffic heading eastbound on Highway 1 was diverted at Spruce Park Drive and Lakeside Boulevard for several hours.
