Ward 10 includes the communities of Abbeydale, Albert Park/Radisson Heights, Applewood Park, Erin Woods, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Forest Lawn Industrial, Franklin, Marlborough, Marlborough Park, Mayland, Mayland Heights, Penbrooke Meadows, Red Carpet/Mountview Mobile and Southview.
The ward is home to International Avenue, a 35-block stretch along 17th Ave. S.E. with many ethnic stores and restaurants.
FAST FACTS: Ward 10 has the highest number of mobile homes in the city. 40 per cent of the ward’s homes are occupied by renters.
Current Councillor: Andre Chabot is seeking his fourth term.
THE CANDIDATES
Chabot sits on the Calgary Economic Development Board of Directors and has a long history of community involvement. He has served on the board of the Marlborough Park Community Association and the Greater Forest Lawn Enhancement Committee. He has volunteered with the Knights of Columbus and continues to be involved in Habitat for Humanity community initiatives. Chabot is a past president of the federal Conservative constituency association in Calgary East.
Chabot’s campaign platform includes reining in property tax increases by asking the province and the federal government to contribute more funding. He believes a $52 million dollar tax surplus should have been returned to taxpayers. Chabot is also lobbying for continuation of SCAN, a program that give Alberta sheriffs special powers to shut down proble3m properties. He also supports increased recreational opportunities.
