Tensions rise in High River meeting as residents push province for answers

High River residents angrily demanded answers at a public information session held in the flood-ravaged town on Thursday night.

The province hosted the meeting to provide displaced residents with more information about their new flood rebuilding policies.

Announced on July 14th, the new policies state that flood victims living in floodways in affected communities will have the choice to relocate or rebuild, using funding from the disaster recovery program.

However, many High River residents argue the province’s maps are outdated and don’t help protect them from future disasters.

Others at the meeting voiced concern over how the province dealt with last month’s flood.

Similar information sessions will also be held in a number of communities in the coming weeks, including Calgary, Medicine Hat, Canmore, Lethbridge, Bragg Creek, Turner Valley and Black Diamond.
