One person was arrested following an assault reported on a trail in Jackson Park in Peterborough on Monday morning.
Around 9:30 a.m. a large police presence converged at the park following reports that a woman while jogging was assaulted by an unknown man on the Trans-Canada Trail near Ackison Road.
Det. Sgt. Josh McGrath told media at the scene that one person was arrested in the park after the incident was reported to police.
The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Police advised people to avoid the entire area of the Jackson Park trail from Atkinson Road to the centre of the park at Monaghan and Parkhill roads as they investigated.
As a result of the investigation Corby Charles Dewitt, of McDonnel Street, Peterborough, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Sexual assault
- Kidnapping
- Uttering threats to cause death
- Assault
- Choking to overcome resistance
The accused is currently in custody and is scheduled to attend court on Tuesday.
“The investigation is ongoing. It is believed there is no further threat to public safety,” police stated Monday afternoon.
The trail reopened around 1:30 p.m., police announced.
