TORONTO — Not surprisingly, Cory Monteith appears on the covers of most of this week’s celebrity magazines.

The Canadian actor, who died last Saturday in a Vancouver hotel room, graces the covers of People, Us Weekly, InTouch and Hello! Canada.

A coroner determined that a combination of heroin and alcohol caused Monteith’s death. He was 31.

“Final Days, Tragic Death,” reads the headline on the front of People, which refers to the Glee star’s struggle “with his demons.”

Inside, six pages of coverage titled “A Life Cut Short,” chronicles Monteith’s rise to stardom. Among the photographs is a snapshot of Monteith — wearing shorts, a T-shirt and sandals — posing outside The Shop in Vancouver a week before he died.

People claims investigators found drugs in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.

US Weekly‘s cover headline — “Dark Final Days” — teases its coverage of Monteith’s “lifelong drug battle, a failed intervention [and] his last night partying with friends — and dying alone.”

Six pages of coverage inside the magazine relies largely on unnamed sources to speculate on the reaction of Monteith’s girlfriend, actress Lea Michele, to his death.

US Weekly quotes Jared McKenzie of The Shop recalling that Monteith stopped by with friends for beers. “Cory preferred cans to bottles,” he told the publication, and left “a huge tip.”

According to US Weekly, Monteith and friends went for dinner and drinks at Queen’s Republic around 7 p.m. on his last night alive, then partied at the Roxy club.

The headline on the cover of InTouch declares that the actor “could have been saved.” The magazine’s coverage claims to go “inside the rising star’s final days.”

InTouch‘s coverage is spread over four pages and includes a claim that Monteith was “spotted in a gritty section of Vancouver’s Gastown neighborhood known for drug activity and crime.”

According to the report, local resident Ashley Hiebert saw Monteith walking alone around 9 a.m. on July 12. “He wasn’t smiling,” she said. “He was wearing a black hoodie and long pants and looked tired and like he had somewhere to be. It’s an odd part of town for him to be exploring in the morning, because nothing is open.”

Hello! Canada pays tribute to Monteith with the words of his father Joe.

“He was very smart, he was very lovable. He was a joy to be with,” reads a quote featured on the cover.

Inside the nine pages of coverage, Joe Monteith says his son’s death was “way, way, way too soon.” He remembers Cory as a beautiful baby and “a joy to be with.”

The magazines are now on sale in major Canadian cities and hit newsstands elsewhere across the country next week.

Prior to his death, Monteith had appeared solo on only a handful of magazine covers — most notably a June 2011 issue of Parade, in which he talked about his “troubled teen years.”
