Edmonton – The case against a man charged with the murdering a St. Albert couple is heading to trial.

In a surprise move, the crown has decided to take the first-degree murder case against Travis Vader directly to trial. Vader was to begin a preliminary hearing in September.

Vader is charged in the deaths of Lyle and Marie Mccann. The McCanns disappeared in July 2010 while on their way to a family gathering in British Columbia.

A burnt-out motorhome belonging to the McCanns was found west of Edmonton two days after they were last seen, but their bodies have never been found.

It’s still not known when a trial date will be set.
