RCMP in Nova Scotia attended to the scene of a commercial vehicle fire in Debert, located 110 kilometres away from Halifax.
“RCMPNS on scene in #Debert for a commercial vehicle on fire containing propane. Plains Rd. is closed from Debert to Belmont Rd. Avoid the area,” the Mounties said on Facebook and Twitter posts around 10:45 p.m. Atlantic time.
RCMP Cpl. Lisa Croteau said it’s a transport truck fire, and that multiple departments are at the scene.
Monday, Debert fire chief Shane Slack told Global News more than 40 firefighters from both Debert and Onslow were on scene battling the blaze.
He says it was the “most spectacular” blaze he’s seen in his 21 years as chief.
There are no reported injuries according to police.
The driver and passenger of the truck managed to get out of the vehicle and run to safety, says Slack.
A video on Twitter, apparently shot from a distance, shows an orange glow from flames.
Nova Scotia’s transportation department said in a tweet that Plains Road will remain shut for “several hours.”
