22-year-old man killed in Memorial Drive motorcycle crash

CALGARY – Police say speed may have been a factor in a deadly motorcycle crash on Memorial Drive, Tuesday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. on Memorial Drive and 10th Street N.E.

Police say the motorcycle driver hit the back end of a Ford Escape as they rounded a bend in the road, causing him to be thrown from his bike, landing some 44 meters away.

The 22-year-old male motorcycle driver was pronounced dead on scene. EMS say he died instantly.

The occupant of the Escape was uninjured.

Police say alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, which closed Eastbound Memorial Drive completely between Deerfoot Trail and Edmonton Trail for several hours as police investigated.

There have been three serious motorcycle collisions in the month of July; two of these have been fatal.
