Regina’s stadium design could see change

REGINA – Regina’s $278-million stadium project is moving to the next phase.

The facility’s planning progress was a hot topic at city council Monday night. It comes after an executive committee vote allowing city council to have the final say in choosing a contractor for the project.

On Monday night council agreed on an evaluation criteria for making that choice.

Mayor Michael Fougere says among the criteria are things like whether the bowl is above or below ground and the sight lines for spectators, but will not release the specifics of the evaluation criteria.

“We are not going to see a radical change from what we’ve seen, we have a spectator roof and it’s clear what a spectator roof looks like,” said Regina mayor Michael Fougere. “Whether they use the same material that’s on the website, I don’t know that.”

The new stadium also has its first tenant – the city approved a $75-million, 30-year lease agreement with Sask Sport that would offer the organization field time and office space once the facility is built.
