TORONTO – To the delight of UFO enthusiasts everywhere, Google celebrated the 66th anniversary of the infamous Roswell incident Monday with an interactive doodle.
Sixty-six years ago, the alleged crash of a UFO on a ranch near the town of Roswell, New Mexico, gave the town a reputation as a ‘UFO Hub’ and sparked North America’s fascination with UFOs.
While witnesses insisted that the crash involved some sort of ‘flying disk’ and even the bodies of alien-like creatures, the U.S. government maintained that the wreckage was that of an experimental weather balloon.

Suspicion surrounding the incident was further fuelled by a press release issued by the local military base that described the object as a ‘flying disk.’
In 1997, the U.S. Air Force released a report called, “Case Closed: Final Report on the Roswell Crash,” which noted that the so-called ‘alien bodies’ seen at the crash site by witnesses were nothing but life-sized test dummies.

But the story of the Roswell incident remains a favourite among conspiracy theorists and UFO enthusiasts alike.
Monday’s Google Doodle features an interactive game that stars an alien whose flying disk crash lands on Earth.
Users move the alien through the game to collect a number of earthling objects and complete various tasks.
