Flooding causes millions of dollars damage at National Music Centre

CALGARY- The National Music Centre says it has no idea when it will be able to reopen its doors, following disastrous flooding in their 11 Ave. S.E. facility.

The basement has had to be sealed off due to mold, and experts are still sorting through the millions of dollars of damage to parts of the centre’s collection.

“We don’t know the full extent yet, the disaster recovery team is on it, on a daily basis,” explains Andrew Mosker, president and CEO of the National Music Centre. “We have had damage to some important artifacts in our collection that have been part of our collection from the early days.”

Musical instruments like pianos, equipment and archival materials have all been badly damaged.

The priority right now is to get the building reopened. Temporary space has been found courtesy of ATB, but programming and events are on hold for the foreseeable future.
