WEST KELOWNA, BC — A 31-year-old Kelowna woman is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a transit driver with a syringe.
The incident happened Saturday, June 29 in West Kelowna.
Police say the unidentified woman boarded the bus near Banks Road in Kelowna.
She told the driver her destination was Orchard Park Mall but failed to get off the bus as it made its way to West Kelowna.
Police say the bus was empty as it pulled into the shelter on Main Street near Hoskins Road in West Kelowna and that’s where the stabbing occurred.
RCMP say the woman casually approached the driver and without provocation stabbed him with the syringe before fleeing on foot.
The woman was picked up in downtown Kelowna about an hour later.
She is well known to police.
RCMP recovered a syringe from the woman.
They also seized brass knuckles and more than a gram of crack cocaine from the suspect who remains in custody.
Police don’t say what might have been in the syringe but say the driver sought immediate medical attention for possible transmission of infectious disease.
