Edmonton – “You tag them, we tag you” is the slogan of a new project by the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) aimed at stopping vandalism.

Police will be placing posters, which feature the slogan, in areas where a lot of vandalism happens.

“The goal of the campaign is to let vandals know that the police are aware of the illegal behaviour that occurs in the city,” says Sgt. Elli McEvoy with Southeast Division. “Graffiti on private or public property is vandalism.”

Police say graffiti vandalism is a prominent crime, which can give a neighbourhood a false reputation of being unsafe.

The EPS is working with Capital City Clean Up, which offers a number of programs to prevent litter and graffiti.

“It’s important for residents to report graffiti to police, especially during the summer months, when a spike is typically observed city wide,” says Const. Ryan Katchur, Graffiti Coordinator with the EPS.
