Backyard fire regulations in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – There are a number of regulations in Saskatoon for those looking to set off fireworks to celebrate Canada Day.

Low-hazard fireworks, which include some roman candles, sparklers, fountains, wheels, volcanoes, mines and snakes that do not travel higher than 60 feet, can only be detonated on private property between dusk and 11 p.m.

“Even though low-hazard fireworks are permitted between dusk and 11:00 p.m. on Canada Day, we still want people to understand the risks associated with fireworks and exercise extreme caution,” ” said Fire Marshal Wayne Rodger.

With the exception of sparklers, fireworks should never be lit while being held and never try to relight or fix fuses on those that fail to go off.

Clean-up should take place at least 30 minutes afterwards and used fireworks and debris should be disposed of in a pail of water.
