Police make arrest in Oliver homicide

EDMONTON- Edmonton police have arrested and charged a man with the death of a man in the Oliver neighbourhood last month.

Curtis Dugray, 51, was found unconscious in the area of 99th Avenue and 111th Street, a few blocks from the Legislature. He was found just before 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. Police and EMS responded and Dugray was pronounced dead on the scene.

Edmonton’s medical examiner has since confirmed that Dugray’s cause of death was blunt and sharp force trauma.

Police say 23-year-old Melvin Simon John Mitchell, of Edmonton, has been charged with second degree murder and possession of an offensive weapon.

Officers say the help of members from Edmonton’s inner-city played a pivotal role in this arrest.
