Police investigating homicide after body found near downtown

EDMONTON – An autopsy has confirmed that the suspicious death of a man Thursday night is a homicide.

His body was discovered in a residential area a few blocks from the Legislature.

Officers were called to 111 Street and 99 Avenue at around 10 p.m., after a person found the body in the area.

Police say the body had obvious signs of injury.

“Upon our arrival, our initial investigators did an examination and determined that it was definitely a deceased male, that was confirmed by EMS,” says Inspector Joel Whittaker, Edmonton Police Service.

Crime scene investigators are working to determine how long the body had been in the area before it was discovered.

An autopsy was conducted on the body Friday morning.

The age of the man is also not yet being revealed.

This is the city’s ninth homicide of 2013.
