RCMP release new details about brazen robbery near Sylvan Lake

CALGARY- RCMP have laid charges against one man, and continue to search for a woman, in connection with an attempted murder investigation near Red Deer.

Around 10 p.m. on June 3, Sylvan Lake RCMP were called to a home for an incident involving firearms. When they arrived, they learned a man and woman had broke into the home, then demanded money and jewelry from a man and his wife.

At one point, the male suspect allegedly tried to fire a gun at the male victim, but the gun did not go off.

The suspects fled after robbing the couple, who are well-known business people in the community, with no known ties to criminal activity.

30-year-old Andrew Waunch was arrested on June 10, during a police pursuit in which several shots were fired at RCMP vehicles. His arrest came shortly after a carjacking at a trailer park.

He has since been charged with a number of offences, including attempted murder, robbery with a firearm and dangerous driving. He’s due to appear in court on Friday.

23-year-old Ashley Chambers is still wanted by police in connection with the robbery. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
