Former church volunteer sentenced in child porn case

CALGARY – A former church volunteer who pleaded guilty to abusing young boys and making child pornography has finally learned his fate.

Roderick Kyle Janssen was sentenced to 14 years in prison on Thursday.

He was charged with possessing, accessing, making and distributing child pornography back in 2011.

A series of other charges was later laid, following the forensic examination of his computers in which police found images that showed Janssen sexually assaulting several children.

He pleaded guilty to 18 of the 30 charges against him.

Janssen has admitted to abusing 10 young boys and collecting and distributing over 70,000 images and videos of sexual abuse of children over a period of at least six years.

He met most of the children through the churches he volunteered at.

On Thursday, Jensen was declared a long-term offender, which means he will be monitored for up to 10 years in the community after he’s released from jail.
