Charges laid after hostage-taking situation

MONCTON, N.B. – A Moncton man is facing multiple charges after holding a store clerk hostage on Sunday morning.

24-year old Josh Terry appeared in a Moncton court Monday and was charged with assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft using a weapon, mischief, and uttering threats to police officers.

Terry waived his right to a bail hearing, and will appear in court again on Friday.

On Sunday morning, RCMP officers were called to a convenience store in Lakeville, NB.

Terry, armed with a knife, had taken the store clerk hostage. A three-hour standoff with police, ended once the clerk had a chance to run away from Terry. Terry then attempted to flee the scene, but was caught by police in a wooded area behind the convenience store.
