Stolen vehicle rams unmarked cruiser car, injures officers

A 21-year-old man is facing numerous charges after allegedly driving a stolen car into an unmarked police car.

Police were notified about a stolen vehicle being driven in the 500 block of Stella Avenue in Winnipeg shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say its officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver intentionally drove head on and hit an unmarked cruiser car when its lights were flashing.

The two officers inside the car suffered minor injuries because of the crash.

The driver took of in the vehicle, eventually hitting a hydro pole and then fled on foot.

Police arrested him in the area of Flora Avenue and Parr Street.

Antonio Andrew Quijada Lavalle, 21, is facing two counts of Assaulting a peace officer with weapon or causing bodily harm, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Flight from a police officer.

Lavalle has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
