Our former Winnipeg Jets, the Phoenix Coyotes, are having the best season in the franchise’s NHL history.
With 50 wins and 107 points the desert dogs have topped the Jets’ best season from a quarter of a century ago.
It’s a moment of celebration for some fans in Winnipeg.
Chris Mackling has been a Jets fan his entire life. He remained a follower when the team moved to Phoenix in 1996. He is pumped about the Coyotes’ season and their first playoff series since 2002 that starts Wednesday night.
“I’m extremely excited…. I think this is a great chance for them,” said Mackling
But most Jets fans are like Tim Gillis, who refuses to cheer for the Coyotes. He feels their success this year a slap in the face.
“I’m very anti-Coyotes,” said Gillis
Coyotes merchandise isn’t flying off store shelves in Winnipeg despite the team’s success this year.
“We’re actually seeing an increase in Winnipeg Jets’ products. People for some reason do not want to support the Coyotes,” said River City Sports Manager Zak Rubin.
