Update: Kamloops RCMP arrest suspect after innocent woman shot during fight

Kamloops RCMP have arrested a suspect after an innocent woman was shot during a fight between two men on Tuesday.

Mounties said two men were violently fighting in the upstairs suite of a house in the 1700-block of Bruner Avenue at around 6:20 p.m.

During the altercation, a gun was fired and the bullet went through the floor and hit a 25-year-old woman who was in the basement suite with her 32-year-old husband and five-year-old daughter.

The woman was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury to her arm.

When police arrived they found a 34-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman in the upstairs suite. Police said the man is one of the two men in the fight and the woman is an acquaintance of both of them.

The man and the woman were taken to the Kamloops RCMP detachment for questioning and the man who is believed to have shot the gun was arrested Wednesday at a motel.

Police said the suspect is well-known to them and has a history of violence, property crime and drug-related offences.

While the nature of the altercation between the two men is still under investigation, police said they are associates.

Mounties will be recommending several weapons charges and an assault charge against the suspect in custody.
