Surrey RCMP are investigating after a bizarre incident that started at a car dealership.

Mounties said a vehicle was taken from the Applewood Kia dealership on Fraser Highway at around 6 p.m.

A short time later, the car was driven back onto the lot and staff went over to the vehicle to speak with the man driving.

According to police, the man then revved the engine, drove across the lot and sped over a 1.3-metre drop into the parking lot of a neighbouring restaurant.

The vehicle hit a parked car and the driver took off on foot.

Dealership staff were able to catch up to him and restrain him until police arrived.

He has been taken into custody.
