Lockdown lifted at Fenelon Falls Secondary School: OPP

A lockdown at Fenelon Falls Secondary School on Monday morning has been lifted.

According to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, the lockdown went into effect as of 8:20 a.m. It was lifted around 10:10 a.m.  The school was then placed in a hold and secure until noon.

Students and staff were asked not to use electronic devices during the lockdown, according to school board communications officer Sinead Fegan.

Just before 10 a.m., OPP stated in a tweet that they received information around 8:08 a.m. about a “general threat related to a school.” They said it was a “threat to the safety of students” in Fenelon Falls.

“The OPP takes all public safety threats seriously and provide resources necessary to assess and respond to such threats,” OPP stated on Monday afternoon.

Nearby Langton Public School and the Fenelon Falls Adult and Alternate Education Centre were also in a hold and secure until further notice, the school board said.

Around 10:15 a.m. OPP said the lockdown had been lifted, however, Fenelon Falls Secondary remained under a hold and secure until noon.

The school board stated at 10:30 a.m. that classes have resumed and the school is operating as usual but the exterior remains locked.

“Students and staff are safe and there were no injuries related to the incident,” the board stated. “The occurrence is a police matter and details cannot be released at this time.”

The board said lockdown protocols were followed. Lockdown drills take place at schools regularly throughout the school year, the board said.

“Students know what to do and where to go when a lockdown is called.”
