CALGARY – You can now have your say on how The City of Calgary should spend an extra $52 million in unbudgeted money.
Councilors announced in April they would have an unexpected multi-million dollar windfall due to a discrepancy in taxes.
“We’ve debated five options in Council—all of which reflect the priorities of Calgarians,” says Mayor Nenshi. “This is our opportunity to engage with citizens to hear what they think before Council makes a decision in July.”
The five options for using the $52 million include:
– Creating a new dedicated capital fund for Calgary Transit
– Reducing the tax rate for businesses
– Investing in maintenance and renewal of older neighbourhoods
– Reducing The City’s debt and our annual interest payments
– Lowering the taxes that homeowners pay
If you have an opinion on how The City of Calgary should spend the money, you can attend a public debate at the Devonian Gardens on Tuesday, May 28, from 12 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.
