$50 million windfall: How should the city spend it?

CALGARY- Members of city council will debate how the city should spend $50 million of extra revenue on Monday.

The City of Calgary previously set a property tax increase of 5.5 per cent for 2013, but the province recently set it at 4.1 per cent. The discrepancy left the city with the extra money.

“I’m really interested in seeing that the public has to say,” says Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “If you asked me today, my in-going bias would be it’s now time to start building out transit.”
