A giant eyeball that washed up on a Florida beach has made headlines Friday, prompting biologists to guess which sea creature it may have come from. Deep sea squid and swordfish are some of the possibilities put forth by Florida International University assistant biology professor Heather Bracken-Grissom, according to The Associated Press. She saw the photos online, and said that squid eyes can easily dislodge, and grow as large as soccer balls. The eyeball has now been sent to a research facility in St. Petersburg for testing.
