Roy has spent the last eight seasons as head coach and general manager of the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The 47-year-old was a star netminder with Montreal and Colorado, winning three Vezina Trophies over his Hall of Fame career.

The Avalanche fired head coach Joe Sacco last month after the team finished last in the Western Conference and missed the playoffs for a third straight season.
