Police lay charges after stabbing at Ottawa motel

Ottawa police say they have charged a 51-year-old man after a stabbing at the New Highway Inn Motel in the city’s south end on Wednesday night that sent a man in his 60s to hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of Prince of Wales Drive, south of West Hunt Club Road, just before 10:30 p.m., according to the police service.

A suspect was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident, police said.

As of Thursday morning, the man who was stabbed remained in hospital in serious condition, according to police spokesperson Const. Amy Gagnon.

Police later confirmed his injuries were non-life-threatening.

In an update on the case on Thursday afternoon, police said they have charged Mack Borden with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon to commit an offence.

Borden is expected to appear in court on Friday morning, Gagnon said.

Police also noted they obtained and executed a search warrant for the scene.
