Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in central, southern Alberta

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for several areas in central and southern Alberta on Tuesday afternoon with Environment Canada warning people in some affected areas to expect “strong wind gusts, up to ping-pong ball-sized hail and heavy rain.”

As of 3:20 p.m., the warning was in effect for parts of Yellowhead County. Shortly after 4 p.m., more areas in central Alberta were also issued a warning.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of southern Alberta, including the city of Lethbridge.

Most of the severe thunderstorm warnings had been lifted by 9 p.m., however, warnings remained in place for parts of Ponoka County, Clearwater County and the O’Chiese 203 Reserve.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for areas in Cypress County and Forty Mile County.
