TORONTO – Famed DJ and producer Peter Rauhofer died May 7 of brain cancer. He was 48.
Rauhofer, who won a Grammy Award for remixing Cher’s “Believe,” was born in Austria but was based in New York City.
“The world has lost an amazing talent,” his manager Angelo Russo wrote on Facebook. “He is gone too soon but we will always have the vast body of music that Peter left for us.”

Rauhofer is well known for his remixes of hits by artists like Madonna, Britney Spears, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey.

He made many appearances at clubs and events in Canada, particularly in Montreal and Toronto.
Rauhofer suffered a seizure in early April and was rushed to hospital, where doctors found a large brain tumour.
He is survived by his mother Helga.
