One man injured after shooting at Yorkdale Mall

Toronto – A man is in hospital in serious condition after a shooting at Yorkdale Shopping Centre early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened just after midnight at the Joey restaurant on the west side of the shopping centre, located at 3401 Dufferin St.

In an exclusive interview with Global Toronto’s Cindy Pom, a Joey staff member working that night said the restaurant was especially packed because of the Leafs’ playoff game.

The staff member also confirmed that the victim was sitting by the window when the shooting occurred.

The man was shot several times as nearly a dozen bullets ripped through the window of the restaurant from outside the building.

The victim taken to Sunnybrook with serious injuries. He is expected to survive.

Police are looking for a silver Honda CRV in connection with the shooting.

The restaurant was open for business at the time of the shooting and there many people inside.

Police are looking for two male suspects. The first is between 5′ 10″ and 6′ 0″, has a medium build, and was wearing black pants and a jacket that was black on the top half and red on the bottom half. The second suspect is between 5′ 10″ and 6′ 0″, has a medium build, and was wearing light colored pants and a grey hoodie.

This is the second shooting in less than two months at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

Michael Nguyen, 23, was killed and another man, 24, was seriously injured after a shooting in the parking lot on the west side of the shopping centre on March 30.

Police have not made any arrests in the previous case, but have said that the shooting was gang-related. Saturday’s shooting happened a short distance away.

Yorkdale officials say the mall will be open today, except for the restaurant.

“Like all Torontonians, we are concerned about gun violence and saddened when such incidents occur in our city,” the mall said in a statement.

“We are cooperating with police and want to thank Toronto Police Service and emergency services for their rapid response.”
