TORONTO – Two men shot outside of Yorkdale Mall on Saturday night were the victims of a targeted, gang-related shooting, police say.
Twenty-three-year-old Michael Nguyen and a 24-year-old man had just left Yorkdale Mall and were walking through the parking lot when they were “ambushed” on Saturday.
Police said the two men, who were known members of the Toronto street gang the ‘Asian Assasins,’ were targeted.

“Someone must have known they were at the Yorkdale Mall and were waiting outside in the parking lot in ambush,” Toronto Police Detective Rob North said at a Wednesday afternoon press conference.
The 24-year-old man was shot once but was able to escape.

However, Nguyen fell as he was running away from his shooters. Police say he was then shot several more times in an “execution style.”
Police say Nguyen had a past criminal record.
North noted during the Wednesday press conference that despite rumours, the shooting did not begin inside the mall.
