Police received reports of a woman being assaulted by an unknown man in the 500 block of 44 Street S.E. at around 4:45 a.m.

EMS confirmed a woman was taken to Foothills Medical Centre in life-threatening condition just after 5 a.m.

Police said Monday that she was in critical but stable condition.

On Sunday, officers blocked off a large area near 44 Street and 4 Avenue S.E. and asked the public to avoid the area.

Officers are seeking a suspect who they could only describe as a tall male. Police want witnesses or drivers with dash cam video to call them at 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.

Michelle Taylor lives on 44 Street, a couple houses away from where the woman was found.

“We heard screaming… like she couldn’t speak. I looked outside and there was an ambulance and police all around here… They took off and they did a police escort with the girl in the ambulance,” she said.
