A man was shot and a woman was taken to hospital following an incident on Edison Ave. in Peterborough’s south end Tuesday night.

Peterborough police say to unknown males were outside an Edison Ave. home when an altercation happened at about 11:30 p.m. Police say the man sustained a gunshot wound and the woman was assaulted. Both victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, police said.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, tells Global News she heard a loud bang.

“I thought something fell.  So, I went outside and then I heard a second bang,” she said.

Another neighbour, who also wished to remain anonymous, said he heard three loud bangs, which he thought were fireworks or firecrackers, at around 11:20 p.m.

The two suspects fled the scene.

Officers in tactical gear descended on the area, shutting down portions of McGill St. and Edison Ave. at Park St.  for several hours. Investigators, including members of the Forensic Identification unit, combed over the scene.

The blockade remained in place for several hours. Officers cleared the scene early Wednesday morning.

Three plain clothed officers returned to Edison Ave. at around 10 a.m. to canvass the neighbourhood.

Police are still searching for the two suspects.

The first is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Approximately 6-foot-2
  • Thin build
  • Wearing a grey hoodie and grey track pants

The second is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • Approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10
  • Wearing a hoodie
