Canada has once again hit the podium!
Edmonton's Mike Robertson captured the Silver Medal in the Men's Snowboard Cross competition. It was quite the performance as he led for most of the race – falling just short to the now 2-time defending Olympic Gold Medallist Seth Wescott of the United States.
With this silver medal, Canada has now won four medals through four days of competition – one shy of tying their total mark at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
MEN'S SNOWBOARD CROSS
Mike Robertson – SILVER
Robert Fagan – 5th Place
Drew Neilson – 11th Place
Francois Boivin – 12th Place
For more information on Mike Robertson's Silver Medal performance you can read Cory Wolfe's article. Cory is a columnist with the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix and does a bang up job covering the Saskatoon Blades and Saskatoon Hilltops. For the next few weeks he'll be in Vancouver covering the 2010 Winter Olympics for the Canwest News Service. He's also a good friend of mine – keep up the great work bud!

As many of you are aware, I'm very proud of my Portuguese heritage. So a shout out to Danny Silva – Portugal's lone competitor at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He finished in 95th Place in the Men's Cross Country Skiing – 15K Free (+15:55.1). He may have finished last but at least he made it to the Olympics.
Congratulations to Canada's Women's Hockey team who have earned a spot in the Semi Finals after their 10-1 win over Switzerland.
Whether you call it an ice resurfacer or zamboni, the fact is the vehicle is one of many Canadian symbols in the sport of hockey – despite it being created in California. Regardless, it's an embarrassment when it breaks down not once but twice on an international stage. Both zamboni's at the Richmond Olympic Oval broke down over the last two days, spilling water and slush onto the ice and causing massive delays. In fact there was a real possibility that today's 500m would be postponed due to the 1 1/2 hour delay. I realize mistakes happen and things break down but this is two days in a row… you'd think VANOC would be working around the clock to ensure this issue doesn't repeat itself in the future.

Jeremy Wotherspoon – born in Humboldt, SK but grew up in Red Deer, AB – had his last shot at an Olympic Medal in the Men's 500m. The 33-year old is participating in his final Olympic Games and while he came up empty handed, he has still made us all proud.
Wotherspoon is unarguably one of, if not, the greatest male Canadian Speed Skaters of all time. He's an 8-time World Champion, an Olympic Silver Medallist (1998 Nagano), and at one point or another held ten world records.
Yet it's unfortunate that some Canadians will remember Wotherspoon for all the wrong reasons.
At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, Wotherspoon fell in the 500m. Canada's best hope for Gold came crashing down – literally. It was a heartbreaking moment and since then Wotherspoon hasn't really been the same.
With that said, he went out on top. Sure he didn't win Gold in the event he's dominated for most of his career. But he went out on his own terms and can proudly hold his head high. He's made not only Saskatchewan / Alberta proud but all of Canada as well.
Thanks for the memories Jeremy.
