HALIFAX – Moosehead fans rallied before Friday night’s game to cheer on the hometown team in game one of the QMJHL finals.

About 25 people gathered on Citadel Hill in downtown Halifax before the game to show their support for the team, which faced off against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar.

One woman clutched posters saying “Mooseheads are better than the Baie-Comeau Drakkar” and “President Cup virgins no more”.

Many people were either dressed in red and green or wearing Mooseheads jerseys. A couple children had their faces painted red and green, and some waved flags sporting the Mooseheads logo.

Rally organizer Joe Archibald says he spread word about the gathering to show that the community is behind the team all the way.

“This is a way for us to say, outside the rink, that we’re really supporting you guys and we hope you do great,” he said.

Archibald got the word out about the rally through social media but says it wasn’t hard to get the fans together.

“A small city like Halifax with great fans to support the Mooseheads, it was pretty easy to get it organized.”

“There was no rally planned and I thought, that’s a sin. Show the boys we’re really behind them,” he said.

John Strowbridge was at the rally with a face painted green and red. He was toting son Logan in his arms, who also had his face painted.

“We’re season ticket holders so usually for every home game this year, his mother has painted his face,” Strowbridge said. “I figured seeing how we’re getting close to the finals now, I’d probably start and get a little bit of paint on my face too.”
