One man was rushed to hospital on Monday night after a natural gas explosion south of Calgary.
Emergency crews were alerted to the blast, which rocked a workshop about three kilometres west of DeWinton, at 8:30 p.m.
One man was inside the structure at the time and was pulled from the fire by family and friends.
The victim, a 36-year-old man, was taken to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in stable condition.
Jim Smith with the Foothills Fire Department said in total, about 25 to 30 firefighters from four fire departments responded to the incident.
“The explosion blew some of the insulation and doors some 60 to 100 feet — so a pretty big area to look at and make sure all the fires are extinguished,” Smith said.
An investigation into what caused the blast is underway.
The hamlet of DeWinton is located about 10 kilometres south of Calgary.
