‘Everybody’s rattled’: RCMP called to shots fired at Langford market

Police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another after shots were fired outside of Happy Valley Market in Langford B.C – Apr 23, 2019

Police in Langford were investigating a targeted shooting on Tuesday morning.

It happened outside the Happy Valley Market in the 3400-block of Happy Valley Road around 11 a.m., according to West Shore RCMP.

According to police two vehicles fled the scene southbound on Happy Valley Road.

Police were already responding to an unrelated collision at Kelly Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway at the time, when one of the suspect vehicles crashed into the existing collision.

“As our officers were already on scene, they were able to quickly and safely arrest one suspect as well as seize a firearm from the vehicle,” said West Shore RCMP Const. Nancy Saggar.

Police recovered the second vehicle, a brown Cadillac sedan, on Leila Road in Colwood.

Police want to talk to the occupants of the vehicle to determine their involvement in the incident and check on their well being.

The driver, described as a Caucasian man in his 30s, was last seen on foot near the Royal Colwood Golf Club.

Tara Koshman with the Petals and Buds florist next door to the market said she wasn’t on site when the incident allegedly happened, but that she came down to check when someone called her about it.

“It seems like everyone is okay, and I’m grateful for that. It didn’t seem like there was anyone hurt,” she said.

“Everybody’s rattled by the news.”

School District 68 said that David Cameron Elementary School and Savory Elementary School were put under “hold and secure” protocol as a precaution, but that students were still allowed to move freely inside.

A witness told Global News that someone lost control of a vehicle while fleeing the scene, and was taken into police custody.
