A 27-year-old inmate who escaped a downtown Edmonton healing centre earlier this week is back in custody.
At around 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jesse Leppanen was unaccounted for at the Stan Daniels Healing Centre, located in the area of 95 Street and 101 Avenue.
The Correctional Service of Canada contacted Edmonton police and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Friday, the CSC said Leppanen was apprehended by police at around 10 p.m. the same night.
The downtown Edmonton facility is managed by Native Counselling Services of Alberta. The NCSA and CSC are now conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
“Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system and NCSA,” read a media release from the CSC Friday.
Leppanen is currently serving a sentence for manslaughter.
