A police officer was killed in the line of duty in Washington on Tuesday night.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, two hours east of Seattle, said it happened around 7:30 p.m.
An officer, driving with a deputy, attempted to pull over a vehicle related to a driving complaint.
According to authorities, the suspect failed to stop, resulting in a pursuit.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop at the end of Pierce Street in Kittitas. According to police, the suspect left the vehicle and exchanged gunfire with the officer and deputy.
The deputy received a fatal gunshot wound and died later in hospital.
The officer suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital. The condition of the officer is unknown.
According to authorities, more officers arrived on the scene and shot the suspect.
The suspect is currently being treated in hospital with unknown injuries.
