Winnipeg police say several officers were assaulted over the weekend as they dealt with a man allegedly swinging a large knife, a drunk man allegedly swinging a baseball bat and a drunk woman who allegedly ran over one officer’s foot with a car.
The first incident happened around 5:20 a.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Wellington Crescent, where police responded to a call about a man carrying several knives in a multi-suite building.
Police said they tried to arrest the man, who allegedly threatened to stab and kill officers with a 13-inch knife.
After trying to calm the man down, police said officers tried to use Tasers to stop the man, but he allegedly barricaded himself in a nearby room with multiple knives.
Police say it took about two hours for the man to be safely arrested and taken to hospital, where he was treated for an existing medical condition.
Kyle Anthony Traverse, 23, faces four counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and two counts of weapons possession.
Next, at about 7 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to Ralph Avenue West. When they got there, police say they found a drunk man in a garage in the 400 block of the street. The man had partially barricaded himself in the garage, police said, and was allegedly breaking things with a baseball bat.

When he spotted police, the man allegedly started swinging the bat at officers and yelling at them. He then backed off but still continued smashing at walls and near the doors, police said.
About 90 minutes later, the police’s tactical support team was able to take him into custody.
Duane Errol Franklin, 54, faces two counts of assaulting a peace officer and possession of a weapon.
The third incident happened the same night at about 11:30 p.m. when officers say they spotted a Dodge Caravan driving erratically on Ellice Avenue near McGee Street. The van came to a quick stop, police said. When officers went up to the van, the driver allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and backed up, forcing officers to dodge out of the way, according to police.
An officer then tried to order the van to stop from the passenger side of the vehicle, and the driver allegedly sped away, rolling over the foot of the officer while doing so, police said.
Police tracked down the van on Agnes Street and found someone who was identified as the driver allegedly trying to jump a fence.
“After a brief struggle with the visibly intoxicated person, the suspect was placed under arrest and taken into custody,” said police.
Jannifer Lyn Pelletier, 42, faces charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, driving with open liquor and driving without a licence.
