After several weeks of delays, a bail hearing for the Kingston, Ont., teen charged with terrorism-related offences finally began on Tuesday.
The teen appeared in person at the Superior Court of Justice in Kingston for the first section of his bail hearing, which was set to run over two days.
The teen’s name, as well as the elements of the bail hearing, are protected under publication bans and cannot be reported.
The youth is facing two criminal charges for allegedly trying to convince someone to plant a bomb.
He was one of two male suspects arrested in Kingston on Jan. 24 by RCMP after weeks of surveillance in the city. The second man was released without charges the next day.

According to one of the youth’s defence counsels, Simon Borys, police may be laying more charges against the teen. Borys couldn’t say how many charges, what the nature of those charges might be or when they would possibly be administered.
As of Tuesday, no new charges have been laid.
The youth is set to appear again in person on March 29, this time at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston, for the second and final day of his bail hearing.
According to Borys, there is no guarantee the judge will make a decision on bail on March 29; it’s possible the decision may come later after some consideration of the case.
