Foreigner takes the stage in Peterborough with local youth choir

Foreigner was in Peterborough on Monday night for a stop on the band’s Cold as Ice Winter Canadian Tour.

“The goal was to hit as many places in Canada as we could. Canada has been a great market for us so we wanted to hit as many cities as we can; we haven’t done as much of the heartland before,” said the band’s bass player and musical director, Jeff Pilson.

Foreigner was founded in 1976, and more than 40 years later, the group continues to rock stages all around the world. The band kicked off their tour on Feb. 22 in Vancouver and is making 18 stops across the country.

“(Audiences) can expect a very high-energy show. They’re going to be doing a lot of singing because they are going to know a lot of the songs, way more than they think,” said Pilson.

For most of the band’s concerts, Foreigner picks a local choir to sing along with the band on stage. The choir helps sell CDs, and all proceeds are given directly to the school’s music department.

The chosen choir in Peterborough is the Peterborough Youth Chorus, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a community choir.

“Oh my gosh, well we’re backstage right now so that’s kind of cool, but it’s going to be a pretty fun night so looking forward to that,” said choir member Carolyn Hoy.

“We were surprised when we won but really happy about it,” said another choir member, Kathryn Harris-Lowe.
